The Bentley stopped in front of Tanya Sinclair, and Vincent Hawthorne got out of the car, glanced at Tanya, and then turned to open the back door.
Caden swiftly got out of the car, but Joy was asleep.
Vincent carried Joy out of the car with one hand, while holding her backpack and a bag of daily necessities in the other.
Tanya stepped forward to take her, but Vincent didn’t let go and took a slight step back.
"I’ll take her in. Joy clings when she’s asleep; she’ll wake up if moved." Vincent paused, looking towards the brightly lit Sinclair Family villa in the distance, "Is it convenient at home?"
"..." Tanya was somewhat annoyed by his seemingly polite probing.
But with the two kids around, she was too weary to argue with Vincent. She led Caden inside, while Vincent carried Joy and the supplies, following behind Tanya.
The moon hung in the sky, and her shadow stretched out at his feet in the moonlight. Vincent’s eyes shifted slightly as he deliberately took a step forward, taking advantage of his height and long legs.
The shadows on the ground showed a family of four, appearing so harmonious.
"Madam, have Caden and Joy returned? I made..." Aunt Tawny, holding a kettle, excitedly came in from the small garden on the terrace, only to see Vincent following Tanya inside, and her face immediately fell.
"Caden, Aunt Tawny saved some goodies for you." Tanya had Caden go with Aunt Tawny to eat.
She led Vincent up to the second floor.
When she first moved in, Tanya had prepared a princess room for Joy on the second floor. Caden and Joy’s rooms were connected by a small door in between, allowing the children to play together or have separate spaces.
Vincent placed Joy on the bed, covered her with a blanket, and kissed her forehead. He appeared every inch the doting father.
Tanya coldly issued an order to leave: "I’ll take care of Joy. You can go."
Vincent turned and walked towards her, as Tanya stood with her arms crossed, a defensive posture.
Vincent closed the door behind him and looked at Tanya, a helpless bitter smile appearing on his face, "Tanya, are you still mad at me?"
Tanya found it laughable.
"You’re giving yourself too much credit."
How could he possibly deserve her wasting energy on hatred?
"Tanya, I..."
Tanya frowned, "What are you calling me?"
Vincent pursed his lips slightly, "Tanya, do we really have to end up like this? We were married once, with so many years of love, not to mention two kids. Can we not even be ordinary friends anymore?"
Tanya found Vincent’s notion incomprehensible.
"Vincent, how can you be so shameless? If it weren’t for the kids, you couldn’t even step inside the Sinclair house!"
Vincent sighed heavily, "I know you still resent me, hate me. Even if you don’t want to hear it, I think it’s necessary to tell you. Cindy Lynn will never appear again; she won’t harm Joy or you anymore. I’ve sent her away; she won’t be coming back."
At the end of his words, his tone carried a hint of humility. He tried to find a trace of emotion on Tanya’s face but saw nothing.
Tanya’s clear eyes pierced coldly, then she suddenly laughed, her gaze sharp enough to see through him.
"Oh, really? Can you guarantee she won’t ever come back, or do you know... she’s never coming back?"
"..." Vincent’s heart jolted.
He had wanted to win Tanya’s favor by intentionally being vague, not mentioning she had been sent onto Declan Pierce’s ship... Yet Tanya’s reaction was as if she already knew!
Vincent pursed his dry lips and let out a faint mocking laugh, "Declan really couldn’t wait to claim credit with you."
Tanya looked at Vincent, the sarcastic smile on her lips growing more pronounced.
"Vincent, you really haven’t changed at all... Declan is the exact opposite of you. He won’t say anything, but he’ll do anything for me."
